Jerry C. Wagner, J.D.
Jerry C. Wagner, a former tax and securities attorney, recognized early on that technology and hedge fund techniques could be applied to help individuals successfully invest while managing their downside risk. After spending time pioneering new techniques in market analysis, designing quantitative methodologies, and managing investment portfolios, Mr. Wagner founded Flexible Plan Investments in February 1981.
Mr. Wagner is also a founding member of the National Association of Active Investment Managers (NAAIM), a nonprofit association of registered investment advisors who use dynamic or tactical asset-allocation strategies to manage over $30 billion in assets invested in mutual funds, ETFs, and annuities. Previously serving as director, chairman, president, and vice president, Mr. Wagner drafted the organization's code of ethics, was a co-author of their performance measurement standards, and has chaired their mutual funds and public relations committees.
With over 40 years’ experience in the industry, Mr. Wagner has written numerous articles and white papers on the merits of active investing. He has been featured in Financial Planning magazine, Financial Advisor Magazine, the Journal of Investing, and other financial publications.
Mr. Wagner earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and an MBA in industrial relations from Michigan State University, and his J.D. from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan.



Peter Mauthe
Before retiring as Flexible Plan Investments’ (FPI’s) vice president of business development in June 2021, Peter Mauthe offered FPI a wealth of industry experience and connections to one of the most extensive networks of financial professionals in the independent investment adviser community. Mr. Mauthe was responsible for new opportunities, developing new business initiatives, and implementing corporate and business-level strategies for the company.
Mr. Mauthe began his career in the financial industry in 1974 when he began trading for a living to help pay his way through college at the University of Miami. In 1979, he began his professional career as an independent market maker on the Chicago Board Options Exchange.
Mr. Mauthe has been integral to the success of many financial firms across the nation. He co-founded MK Asset Management Inc. in Irvine, California; was president of Trendstat Capital Management Inc. in Scottsdale, Arizona; was chief operating officer at Spectrum Financial Inc. in Virginia Beach, Virginia; and was principal in Dallas-based Rhoads Lucca Capital Management Inc. He has also worked with world-renowned author John Mauldin in managing and developing various companies for the popular internet commentator.
Mr. Mauthe has served as president of the American Association of Professional Technical Analysts and president, chair, and director of the National Association of Active Investment Managers (NAAIM).


David Wismer
David Wismer is Director, Communications, for Flexible Plan Investments, Ltd. and editor of Proactive Advisor Magazine, a digital publication dedicated to promoting and educating the advisor community on active investment management. David brings over 25 years' experience in media engagement, executive client account management, communications planning and implementation and new business development.
Prior to joining Flexible Plan Investments, David worked in a content/editorial role for the financial website StateoftheMarkets.com and also as a Contributing Writer for Forbes.com. David has previously worked for DDB Worldwide, where he managed strategy, campaign development, and client relationships for many well-known consumer brands, including Hershey's, PepsiCo/Frito-Lay, Bayer, J&J, and P&G. He also has deep experience with financial services, having worked with clients such as JPMorgan Chase, Bank of NY Mellon, Thomson Reuters, the American Stock Exchange, and CIGNA.
David has a Bachelor's degree in English from Cornell University and an MBA in Marketing from Harvard University.

Jason Teed, CFA
Jason Teed is responsible for the daily calculation of mutual fund trades, optimization of trading system models, development and verification of new algorithmic trading methodologies (up to and through completion and actual trading), proprietary asset-allocation design and testing, walk-forward optimization design and utilization, and fiduciary communication with clients.
Mr. Teed holds an MBA in finance from Walsh College of Accountancy and Business Administration, where he graduated magna cum laude. He holds the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Tim Hanna, CFA, CFIP
Timothy Hanna is responsible for performing applied economic and quantitative research for Flexible Plan Investment’s strategies and mutual funds. He reviews new and existing strategies, ensuring that algorithms perform within expectations, providing modifications to achieve best execution and efficient implementation. Mr. Hanna has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Wayne State University and a master’s degree in finance from Walsh College. He holds the designations of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Fixed-Income Practitioner (CFIP).
Before joining Flexible Plan Investments, he was an institutional fixed-income manager at Multi-Bank Securities and previously a derivatives trader.


Will Hubbard, CFA
William Hubbard, CFA, is a research consultant for Flexible Plan Investments and a quantitative money-management analyst. He has spent his career focusing on how active management can generate results regardless of market direction. He believes all individuals have unique circumstances that necessitate a robust financial plan to develop a proper portfolio for clients that includes active and passive strategies.


Daniel Poppe, CFA
Daniel Poppe reviews and monitors Flexible Plan’s investment strategies and proposes modifications when necessary to pursue optimal performance. He also aids in the creation of new investment strategies and conducts the research required to do so. He conducts data analysis and quantitative testing to answer research inquiries as they arise. Mr. Poppe holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and a bachelor’s degree in business economics from Oakland University.
